One of the key features of your Viola Black account is your prepaid card: a debit card that has a preloaded amount of money on it, meaning you can only ever spend what’s on it.
Your physical card can be used for real-world purchases, your virtual card for ones online.
You can load as much or as little money onto it as you want, making it a great way of budgeting and controlling your spend.
For example, if you’re going on a night out and want to set yourself a strict budget of £50, you can load £50 onto your Viola Black card, safe in the knowledge that it’s impossible to spend any more than that designated amount.
The way your Viola Black prepaid card works (or cards if you have multiple cards on your account for family members) is simple.
Using your Viola Black app dashboard, you can bank transfer money from another one of your accounts, thanks to the fact your Viola Black account has its own account number and sort code.
This also means you can receive payments from other people as a way of topping-up your account’s funds. Depending on how much money is in your Viola Black account, you can then top-up as much or as little onto your Viola Black card.
You’re then free to spend until your card runs out of money or you decide to top-up again.
We are not a bank, meaning – that unlike other prepaid card companies – we don’t offer any form of overdraft facility. Your Viola Black account gives you complete
control of the money that is available to you, meaning we’ll never be able to offer you any form of financial lending.
Whether it’s an administration, UK transaction or ATM withdrawal fee, most
prepaid card accounts carry some sort of fee.
We charge a monthly fee of £4 per month for using the Viola Black account. Please note that additional fees may apply for our services —for a complete breakdown of costs, see our fee table.
Yes, you can use your Viola Black prepaid debit card at both UK and worldwide ATMs.
Please be aware that you will be charged a fee of £2.90 for withdrawls from ATMs in the UK. Please note, other fees will apply for using an ATM outside of the UK. Please see our fees table for more details.
